![]() ![]() Last year, in response to OnePlus throttling apps on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the service delisted both devices from its browser. It's not the first time Geekbench has pulled devices from its benchmark chart. Samsung did not provide a timeframe for when this update might make its way out to users. However, Geekbench's current policy is to keep manipulated devices delisted permanently, even following a patch that fixes the issue, so none of the phones removed today will be relisted on the site. Samsung has promised to release a future update that will add the ability to control gaming performance directly. We view this as a form of benchmark manipulation as major benchmark applications, including Geekbench, are not throttled by this service. GOS decides to throttle (or not to throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior. Geekbench provided us with the following statement:Įarlier this week, we were made aware of Samsung's Game Optimizing Service (GOS) and how it throttles the performance of games and applications. In our independent testing, we confirmed a significant reduction in performance when spoofing Genshin Impact. Antutu on other hand has categories like Memory, UX (dont know why or what it is) and both of these extra. This move comes after reports that One UI 4's GOS software throttles thousands of apps to maintain performance and improve battery life. Because Geekbench is a CPU/GPU test only. Galaxy Note and A-series devices will remain unchanged, as they do not appear to be impacted in testing. This resulted in artificially inflated scores that users would not see during real-world usage.Geekbench told us it plans to delist the entire Galaxy S22 series from the Geekbench Browser effective today, along with all S21, S20, and S10 devices. However, OnePlus has previously tried to push the OnePlus 5's performance capabilities when the OS detected a benchmark app. While this may impact the devices' performance in some benchmarking apps, our focus as always is to do what we can to improve the performance of the device for our users." This has helped to provide a smooth experience while reducing power consumption. As a result of this feedback, our R&D team has been working over the past few months to optimize the devices' performance when using many of the most popular apps, including Chrome, by matching the app's processor requirements with the most appropriate power. “Following the launch of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro in March, some users told us about some areas where we could improve the devices' battery life and heat management. OnePlus issued a statement to Android Authority saying it was all due to user feedback. OnePlus has yet to issue a statement on the matter. Geekbench called Oxygen OS's behaviour a form of "benchmark manipulation". ![]() After conducting its own investigation, Geekbench removed all OnePlus 9 benchmarks from its charts. Geekbench, one of the more popular benchmarking sites, took these allegations seriously and had a look themselves. According to the team's research, Oxygen OS apparently limits the performance of some popular Android apps - but none of those apps are benchmark suites. AnandTech noticed some "weird behaviour" it spotted with the OnePlus 9 Pro. ![]()
